When school’s out for summer, so are school lunches.

Unfortunately, this compounds Arizona’s hunger problem at a time when food donations are incredibly low. In Arizona, one in five children goes to bed hungry, according to the 2009 USDA hunger survey. You can help the Phoenix Rescue Mission as we turn hunger into hope for children this summer by gathering all the items on our flyer and dropping them off at the Family Outreach Center at 3532 W Thomas, STE 9, Phoenix AZ 85019.

We’ll be giving every child attending our Back to School event at the end of the month a “Pack A Sack” to give them a head start on their school lunch kits!

Gap Volunteers "In Action" for the Mission!

Gapvolunteers-6

Gap Volunteers at our food pantry packed 116 food boxes, which is enough food to feed a family of four three meals a day for four days. This means they helped us provide 1,392 meals to hungry people! They also packed over 320 Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Bags which feed an individual for three days. We thank them for putting their compassion for the hungry In Action!

As part of their “RED (Renew, Energize and Donate) Day” Keller Williams Real Estate volunteers gave time at Phoenix Rescue Mission, packing food boxes, doing lawn work, building desks, varnishing the chapel walls and cleaning. They also helped sort and count backpacks for our upcoming back to school drive. Thank you to everyone who participated!
